Artist Statement
My work explores the intersection of cosmic history and contemporary cartography through the language of printmaking.
Through graphic art, primarily using aquatint and etching techniques, I create visual narratives that bridge the gap between historical and contemporary understanding of our universe. My graphic maps combine the precision of scientific observation with the mystery and wonder of historical cartographic traditions.
Drawing inspiration from the history and evolution of the Universe, my work weaves together motifs of sea monsters, ships, and celestial bodies—elements that speak to humanity's eternal quest to understand and map the unknown.
Creative Process
My approach centers on printmaking as a medium for exploring complex scientific and historical themes. Through aquatint and etching, I develop intricate visual systems that invite viewers on a journey through the Solar System while exploring fragments of cosmic exploration history.
The studio becomes a space where historical cartographic traditions meet contemporary understanding of the cosmos, where each mark and line carries both technical precision and poetic resonance.
Themes & Concepts
Central to my work are themes of permanence and impermanence, the eternal and the transient. Through printmaking, I explore how we map and understand our place in the cosmos, combining historical perspectives with contemporary scientific knowledge.
My work invites contemplation of humanity's relationship with the universe— how we have mapped the stars, imagined distant worlds, and sought to understand our cosmic context throughout history.
